The Junior National Reading Champions Quiz is a competition that pits teams from schools across the country against each other in a test of their book knowledge.
The Junior Quiz is designed for keen readers aged 9-11. Schools can enter a single team consisting of four members plus a reserve for their regional heat. The winner of each regional heat will then go through to the Grand Final.
Questions are based on fiction titles only. These will range from books for readers aged 5+ to Upper Middle Grade titles. There is no prescribed booklist.
Timetable:
- Registration opens on 8th June 2026 and closes on 31st July. There are 25 teams per regional heat and places will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Regional heats will take place online from mid-September to mid-November 2026.
- The Grand Final will take place in early/mid December 2026 in central London.
Cost: £25 per team.
About National Literacy Trust: NLT is an independent literacy charity working with schools and communities to give disadvantaged children the literacy skills to succeed in life. The charity runs literacy programmes, CPD training courses for teachers, and provides online resources and tools to its members. It also undertakes research into all aspects of literacy and campaigns to raise awareness of literacy issues.
