BookSlam is  an annual project aimed at promoting reading for pleasure amongst pupils in Years 3-6 and Years 7 and 8 in English medium primary schools in Wales. For Welsh medium schools, the Gornest Lyfrau  competition is also available for Years 3-6 and 7 and 8.

To enter the BookSlam competition, schools will:

• Choose a book to read and discuss from a recommended reading list.
• Take part in a variety of fun and creative challenges such as creating a promotional video (primary) or taking part in a performance task (secondary),  as well as writing and illustrating tasks (both primary and secondary)

The programme is designed to be flexible and can be run either as a whole-class activity or with smaller book groups. Schools can enter as many groups or classes as they wish.

Timetable:

• The deadline for registering is the end of January
• County rounds to be completed by the end of May
• The national round takes place in Aberystwyth during the summer term.

Cost: Free, but schools are welcome to buy sets of books for participating pupils, as well as travel costs to Aberystwyth for the national round in June.
