World Read Aloud Day is celebrated annually on the first Wednesday in February. In 2027, World Read Aloud Day falls on 3 February.

The aim of World Read Aloud Day is to raise awareness of the positive impact of reading and sharing stories aloud on children’s wellbeing, language development and learning. Organisers LitWorld provide a number of free resources that can be used to support World Read Aloud Day in the UK, including:

  • An Educator’s Guide
  • Interactive storytelling games
  • Bunting and bookmark templates

 Cost: Free.

About LitWorld: World Read Aloud Day was set up in 2010 by LitWorld, a global not-for-profit organisation based in the USA that is dedicated to strengthening children, families and communities around the world through literacy and the power of stories. As well as World Read Aloud Day, LitWorld runs a number of literacy programmes, including their flagship programme LitClubs.
