Bookspark is a shared reading programme aimed at KS3 pupils. It provides a curated pack of books and supporting resources to help all students, but particularly reluctant and less engaged readers, develop positive attitudes to reading through sociable reading experiences.

Each Bookspark book pack includes 40 books that have been carefully curated for use in group and paired reading sessions and for reading aloud. The pack provides:

  • Five titles selected for use in group reading sessions  (supplied in sets of six).
  • Five titles chosen for paired reading.
  • Five read aloud titles.

Participating schools also receive a range of resources to support delivery of the programme, including:

  • A reading guide with tips on how to use the programme and introductions to all fifteen titles.
  • Access to an online resource area with tips and ideas from other practitioners.
  • Posters to promote the books.
  • Printed discussion guides and introductory author videos for each of the five group reading titles.
  • A live virtual author event with one of the Bookspark authors.

The books and resources are designed to be used flexibly through the year in library lessons, targeted interventions, nurture groups and book clubs.

Timeline:

  • Schools can order the new Bookspark packs from September.
  • Packs are delivered from January onwards.
  • Order by 9th March 2026 to guarantee access to the exclusive online event with Jennifer Killick on Thursday 19th March.
