The Blue Peter Book Club is a monthly book club for young people in KS2 (ages 7-11) set up by Blue Peter and The Reading Agency to promote the joy of reading. Once a month, Blue Peter presenters showcase a new title on the Blue Peter show and are joined by young readers to share their comments.
The featured books have been selected by children’s book experts with the help of children’s reading groups and libraries across the UK. The titles are released in two groups of six in September and April. You can find the latest titles here.
In addition, there are quizzes, activities and writing challenges for each of the Book Club titles on the BBC website.
Cost: Access to the recommended booklist and accompanying online activities is free. Schools will need to buy their own copies of the books.

Literacy Hive Likes:
- The current booklist features a mix of fiction and non-fiction titles and includes a poetry book, a graphic novel and a dyslexia-friendly title to appeal to a wide range of reading interests and abilities.
- BBC Bitesize has created companion guides aimed at pupils in LKS2 (ages 7-9) for each of the Book Club books to support children’s learning in line with the curriculum.
- Blue Peter has also introduced a Blue Peter Book Badge designed by Sir Quentin Blake. Young people aged 5-15 can apply for their Book Badge by reviewing a book, illustrating a character or scene from the book and sharing titles of other books that they have enjoyed.
