BookSlam is an annual project aimed at promoting reading for pleasure amongst pupils in Years 3-6 in English medium primary schools in Wales. For Welsh medium and trans-lingual schools, the Gornest Lyfrau competition is also available.

To enter the BookSlam competition, schools must:

• Choose a book to read and discuss from a recommended reading list.
• Create a promotional video for a second book chosen from the reading list.

The programme is designed to be flexible and can be run either as a whole-class activity or with smaller book groups. Schools can enter as many groups or classes as they wish.

Timetable:

• The deadline for registering is the end of December
• County rounds to be completed by the end of May
• The national round takes place in Aberystwyth during the summer term.

Cost: Free, but schools will need to buy sets of books for participating pupils.
