OU Reading Schools: Building a Culture of Reading is a year-long CPD programme designed to help schools develop and implement an effective, whole-school reading for pleasure strategy for primary and KS3 pupils.

Led by the OU Reading for Pleasure Team under Professor Teresa Cremin, the blended programme combines the latest RfP research with tailored support to develop staff knowledge and support schools to build a rich, school-wide culture of reading that will deliver a positive impact on reading attitudes and attainment for all pupils. Over the course of an academic year, the programme provides:

  • A whole-school blended INSET day
  • English leader sessions  x 8
  • Tutorials and small group sessions x 5
  • SLT and Change Team sessions x 3
  • An author event for staff and pupils
  • A book box and professional readings
  • Dedicated website space

Timing

  • Register for one of the free introductory sessions in the spring term. There are sessions for primary and secondary schools.
  • The deadline for signing up for the full programme is in June.
  • The programme launches with a twilight session in July ready for the new academic year in September.

Cost: £2400 (reduced rates for small schools and groups of 6+ schools available).
