The OU Reading for Pleasure website is a CPD resource for literacy professionals that provides access to effective, research-informed approaches that support young people’s reading for pleasure.
The website showcases the findings of the seminal Teachers as Readers research project (Teresa Cremin et al., 2014) which identified five key areas that work together to create an environment that promotes children’s volitional reading:
- Teachers’ knowledge of children’s literature and other texts.
- Teachers’ knowledge of children’s reading practices.
- Reading for Pleasure pedagogy.
- Reading teachers: teachers who read and readers who teach.
- Reading communities.
Alongside the research findings, the Reading for Pleasure website also provides access to a range of supporting resources, including:
- Reading surveys for pupils, teaches and parents to help schools review their current RfP practice.
- Practical strategies to enable practitioners to implement each of the five key themes in the classroom.
- Inspiration from teachers around the country.
- Links to further Reading for Pleasure research and articles.
- Ideas and resources to support reading at home.
- Book recommendations and interviews with authors.
Cost: Free.
