Every term, the team from Discovering Children’s Books at the British Library runs a creative book-making project designed to spark a love of reading, writing and drawing in young people. The project is supported by a range of resources created by much-loved authors and illustrators, including free online workshops and CPD events.

This autumn’s campaign celebrates representation and inclusivity, encouraging young people to ‘Step Inside Their Story’ and create a book about themselves.

  • Explore the representation of cultural heritage in children’s books and get tips on how to support pupils as they create stories about their own lives in a free online CPD session on 3rd October with authors J T Williams and Maisie Chan and children’s literature experts Farrah Serroukh and Karen Sands-O’Connor.
  •  Sign up for a free online workshop for pupils aged 6-11 on 10th October with authors J T Williams and Maisie Chan who will provide creative prompts and share tips to encourage children to explore their identities and heritage as they become the authors of their own story.
