YA Book Prize 2024 – Shortlist Announced!

13 June, 2024

The shortlist for the YA Book Prize 2024 has been announced. Now celebrating it’s 10th anniversary, the YA Book Prize was launched to celebrate books specifically for teenagers and young adults.

The collaboration between the YA Book Prize and the Edinburgh International Book Festival continues for a third year, with shortlisted authors talking about their work as part of the Baillie Gifford Schools Programme, and the winner to be announced at a live ceremony on 22nd August.

This year’s shortlist of ten titles was selected by a team at The Bookseller and includes six debut authors. The overall winner will now be chosen by a panel of book experts made up of editors, reviewers and authors, including Alice Oseman, creator of the Heartstopper graphic novel series and winner of the YA Book Prize in 2021.

Commenting on this year’s shortlist, chair of the YA Book Prize Katie Fraser said: “This year’s shortlist truly encapsulates the joy of Young Adult fiction and the astounding talent here in the UK and Ireland. It is a fitting shortlist for the prize as we celebrate its 10th anniversary, championing both debutantes and established authors and the astounding work they have produced.”

Alice Oseman said: “I’ve been a part of the UK YA community and have felt their support and encouragement for almost a decade, and I can’t wait to return some of that love by shining a spotlight on some of the incredible stories being written right now…”
