HFL Education’s Spoken Language Progression Document provides a framework to enable practitioners to plan for and monitor progression of spoken language skills from Year 1 through to Year 6.
The framework is fully aligned with the National Curriculum’s statutory requirements for Spoken Language across all areas of the curriculum. It provides descriptions of observable, age-appropriate pupil behaviours across five areas of learning:
- Listening and responding
- Questioning
- Oral rehearsing/presenting
- Vocabulary
- Talking with others
For maximum flexibility, the behaviours are presented in two ways:
- By year group
- By area of learning across all year groups.
The accompanying Audit Tool allows subject and senior leaders to assess their whole-school oracy provision, both as an independent area (learning to talk) and integrated within the wider curriculum (learning through talk).
Cost: £15. (To purchase, teachers must first register for an account on HfL Education’s Hub.)
