Linguistically-Informed Oracy: Policies and Practice is a one-day conference for secondary English specialists and SLTs that takes place in London on Friday 28th March.
Through keynote presentations from leading academics and a range of workshops led by teacher-educators, participants will have the opportunity to hear about the latest linguistic research and explore some of the key issues that underpin an effective oracy strategy.
Keynotes:
- ‘Vital but Neglected’: 100 Years of Talking about the Teaching of Spoken Language Skills, Deborah Cameron, Professor of Language and Communication at Oxford University.
- ‘Learning about Talk’ and Why it Matters, Rob Drummond, Professor of Sociolinguistics at Manchester Metropolitan University and member of the Oracy Education Commission.
- How Can We Cultivate Socially Just Approaches to Oracy Education in the Classroom, Julia Snell, Professor of Sociolinguistics at the University of Leeds.
Workshops:
- Writing Talk: Empowering Authors through Metalinguistic Talk, Debra Myhill, Professor of Education at Exeter University.
- Teaching Students about Spoken Language, Critically, in the KS3 Curriculum, Clare Feeney, St Thomas More Catholic High School.
- Learning Through Talk Across a Whole School, Lucy Strike, Alexandra Park School.
